SSM2603 is a low power, high quality stereo audio codec for portable digital audio applications with one set of stereo programmable gain amplifier (PGA) line inputs and one monaural microphone input. It features two 24bit analogue-to digital converter (ADC) channels and two 24bit digital-to analogue (DAC) converter channels. It can operate as a host or a server. It supports various host clock frequencies, including 12MHz or 24MHz for USB devices; standard 256fS or 38fS based rates, such as 12.288MHz and 24.576MHz; and many common audio sampling rates, such as 96KHz, 88.2KHz, 48KHz, 44.1KHz, 32KHz, 24KHz, 22.05KHz, 16KHz, 12KHz, 11.025KHz, and 8KHz. This device's software-programmable stereo output options provide the user with many application possibilities. Its volume control functions provide a large range of gain control of the audio signal. It is used in applications like mobile phones, MP3 players, portable gaming, portable electronics, educational toys etc.
